La Cima Charter School is a free public K-5 charter school in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn where small class sizes, rich cultural programming, and a tight-knit community help every child become an academic achiever and a confident community leader.
We believe schools should be places where students engage in innovative opportunities that support and develop wider community change. Our students are change makers who learn to use the power of their voices to improve the world. — Our Core Mission, La Cima Charter School
At La Cima, learning goes far beyond the classroom. Our progressive, experiential model weaves together rigorous academics, cultural enrichment, and student leadership so every scholar in grades K through 5 grows as a thinker, an artist, and a community member.
Our progressive curriculum pushes scholars to think deeply in reading, writing, and mathematics. La Cima students score 21 percentage points above the NYC average in math proficiency, reflecting high expectations for every learner.
Every student at La Cima participates in African drum and dance classes. This signature program celebrates cultural identity, builds confidence, and deepens the sense of belonging that defines our community.
Visual arts, music, and theater are woven into the school experience. Our after-school clubs include theater, dance, and cooking, giving scholars multiple creative outlets to develop their individual voices.
La Cima provides a dedicated 12:1:1 IEP setting alongside inclusive classroom support. Our small school size means students who need additional services are known personally and receive timely, targeted help.
Approximately 30 percent of our scholars are multilingual learners. Our student-centered ENL program builds speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills through targeted small-group interventions, with 75 percent of students improving their English proficiency levels last year.
La Cima uses New York City as an extension of the classroom. Scholars go on approximately one field trip per month, bringing learning to life through hands-on experiences across the five boroughs and beyond.
La Cima is not just another charter school. We are a small, deeply rooted Bed-Stuy community with high expectations, strong relationships, culturally rich programming, and a genuine commitment to every scholar becoming both a strong student and a confident community leader.
Small class sizes mean teachers truly know each scholar. Students receive personalized instruction, and staff notice quickly when a child needs extra support or a greater challenge.
La Cima is a free public charter school open to families across Brooklyn. There are no tuition fees, and enrollment is not limited to a geographic zone. Free breakfast, lunch, snacks, and after-school care until 6 p.m. are also provided.
From African drum and dance for every grade to monthly field trips across New York City, La Cima ensures enrichment is central, not an afterthought. Students grow academically, artistically, and as leaders.
